Organization, Executive Leadership, and Board Capability Assessment at a Nationwide Charitable Organization _______________________________________________________________________ Issue: The Board of Directors for a nationwide not-for-profit organization wanted to ensure that current leadership had the required competencies to take on expanded roles resulting from the organization's rapid and significant growth.
Solution:Leadership and organizational performance was assessed using a 360-degree feedback process and comprehensive interviews. Competency models were developed for the executive leadership team and for members of the Board's executive committee. Key processes and performance indicators were also assessed with regard to organizational and leadership performance. Result: Formal assessments provided an objective basis for organizational and leadership changes, executive team performance, and Board function. Additionally, the organization and Board implemented all recommendations made during the engagement (e.g., an interim model for Board structure, Board recruitment, leadership development, organizational redesign, and culture transformation), and successfully weathered a difficult economic situation. _______________________________________________________________________
Functional Capability Assessment at a Life Sciences Organization _______________________________________________________________________ Issue:A shared services HR function of a large, multinational company was suffering from a credibility problem caused by overpricing and inadequate internal consulting capability.
Solution:Customer needs were identified and prioritized; functional standards were established through detailed service level agreements; and internal consulting capability was increased through restructuring and redeployment.Web-based self service was introduced and process improvements were facilitated by activities-based costing (ABC), automation, and centralization.
Result:The function improved its P&L and reduced operating costs by 50%; met and exceeded its Balanced Scorecard goals; achieved significant improvement in annual customer satisfaction ratings; and was able to pass on cost savings to internal customers through reduced service fees. _______________________________________________________________________

Issue:After rapidly expanding through acquisition, a traditional-bricks-and-mortar healthcare organization was in need of new business models that would allow for decentralization while still preserving centralized control.
Solution:Organizational, team, and individual leadership assessment was conducted prior to strategic planning sessions that explored various organizational designs.At the same time, leadership contracts clarified roles and accountabilities and improved problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution.

Bench Strength Analysis at an International Development Organization _______________________________________________________________________ Issue: A large, global not-for-profit organization was competing for leadership talent with companies in the private sector. To keep pace with its competitive and, at the same time, prepare for continued growth, board members and senior leaders decided that a bench strength analysis was in order.
Solution: A comprehensive bench strength analysis identified traditional areas of risk as well as risk that was unique to this organization.
Result: The bench strength analysis provided a foundation for structured/formal succession planning and for continued monitoring of individual development plans for key individuals and their respective benches. The organization was also able to identify areas of risk and develop the necessary talent to succeed incumbents in key positions. _______________________________________________________________________
