Managing Principal _____________________________________________________________________
Hello! I'm Marilyn Blocker, Founder and Managing Principal of Innovation Outcomes. While serving on senior management teams at The Coca-Cola Company, Philips Electronics, John Hancock Financial Services, GTE (now Verizon Communications), and Providence Healthcare System, I learned about challenges in a variety of industries and at all stages of the organizational life cycle.
Experienced at instituting many best practices over the years, I know that organizations must cover a variety of bases, to optimize performance of individuals, teams, and organizations. I also know that yesterday's best practices aren't likely to ensure today's success.

Thoughts About Innovation
Innovation brings the greatest value when it's sustainable. So, although innovation is sometimes characterized as a race to outdistance the competition, it's clear that there's no finish line. Why? Because the innovation race that must be constantly run, and against a constantly changing terrain. __________________________________________________________________________________
Although innovation is a race, the skills required for it are best compared to those of symphony orchestra conductors and jazz musicians. Conductors achieve mastery and build on time-tested traditions and disciplines. By contrast, accomplished jazz musicians continually explore, experiment, and co-create to introduce new music or take existing music in new directions. Successful innovators orchestrate in similar ways as symphony orchestra conductors and improvise as do jazz musicians. To learn more about this, see the Publications page on this site.
